Design Concept
The design direction for The Tamarind was based on a modern white and wood interior concept. The white cabinet panels help keep the space clean, bright and visually spacious, while the wood texture adds warmth and prevents the design from looking too plain or cold.
The kitchen was designed with both function and lifestyle in mind. The island cabinet provides additional countertop space for food preparation, casual dining and daily use. It also creates a natural connection between the dry kitchen and the surrounding living area.
The shoe cabinet was designed with storage, display and seating functions. The warm wood niche with lighting gives the entry area a more welcoming feel, while the hidden cabinet compartments help keep shoes and daily items organised.
For the bedrooms, the wardrobes were designed in a clean full-height layout to maximise vertical storage. The use of long handles and simple panel lines keeps the wardrobe design neat and modern.
Design Challenges
The main challenge was to keep the overall design consistent across different areas of the home. The kitchen, island, shoe cabinet and wardrobes all needed to follow the same white and wood design direction without making the home look repetitive.
Another challenge was storage planning. The client required practical storage for kitchen items, shoes, clothing and daily household belongings, but the design still needed to look clean and uncluttered.
For the kitchen, proper coordination was needed between the island cabinet, sink, Teka hob, Teka hood, oven cabinet, countertop and walkway clearance to ensure comfortable daily use.
Our Solution
We created a consistent material palette using white cabinet finishes and wood-texture panels. This allowed each area to look connected while still having its own function.
For the kitchen, we planned the island cabinet as both a practical preparation counter and a casual seating area. The sintered stone countertop was selected for durability, easy maintenance and a premium modern look.
For the shoe cabinet, we included a seating area, display niche and storage compartments to make the entrance more functional. For the wardrobes, we used full-height cabinet design to maximise storage while keeping the room visually clean.
Soft-closing fittings such as DTC hinges and BLUM drawer systems were used to improve long-term usability and provide a smoother user experience.
Final Outcome
The completed project at The Tamarind, Tanjung Tokong, Georgetown, Penang delivers a clean, bright and functional home interior with a warm wood texture finish. The kitchen and island cabinet provide a practical daily-use space, while the shoe cabinet and wardrobes improve storage and organisation throughout the home.
This project is suitable as a reference for homeowners looking for custom kitchen cabinets, island cabinets, wardrobes and shoe cabinets in Tanjung Tokong, Georgetown and Penang.
