Full Carpentry Works for Modern Condominium Interior
Kitchen Story Sdn. Bhd. completed this full carpentry project for a condominium unit at Imperial Residences, Sungai Ara, Bayan Lepas, Penang. The project focused on creating a clean, practical, and modern home interior with customised built-in cabinetry for the kitchen, living area, entrance, altar area, and bedrooms.
For this project, our scope of work included dry kitchen cabinet, wet kitchen cabinet, shoe cabinet, altar cabinet, room wardrobes, TV cabinet, wiring works, and painting works. The overall design direction uses a clean white and dark grey colour palette, balanced with marble-look countertop surfaces and selected wood-texture elements. This creates a modern condominium interior that feels bright, organised, and visually refined.
The dry kitchen was designed as a functional feature area connected to the living and dining space. The island cabinet provides additional countertop usage, storage, and a casual serving area, while the pendant lights add a warm and stylish focal point. The wet kitchen was designed for practical daily cooking with a cleaner white cabinet concept, durable countertop surfaces, and well-planned sink, hob, and hood placement.
In the living area, the TV cabinet was kept sleek and minimal to maintain a clean visual line across the space. The custom shoe cabinet and altar cabinet were also designed to maximise storage while blending into the overall interior style. For the bedrooms, we customised wardrobes based on each room’s layout, using different finishes and configurations to suit storage needs and space limitations.

Design Concept
The design concept for this Imperial Residences project is modern, clean, functional, and space-efficient.
The use of white cabinetry helps brighten the home, while dark grey wall features and cabinet panels create contrast and depth. Marble-look surfaces add a premium touch without making the space feel too heavy. The overall design is suitable for condominium living because it keeps the home visually open while still providing sufficient built-in storage.
Key Features
Dry Kitchen Cabinet with Island
The dry kitchen was designed as a semi-open feature area with a clean island cabinet, marble-look countertop, pendant lighting, and additional storage.
Practical Wet Kitchen Cabinet
The wet kitchen cabinet was designed for daily cooking use, with a simple and practical layout for sink, hob, hood, and storage.
Custom Shoe Cabinet
A tall shoe cabinet was built near the entrance to maximise vertical storage while keeping the foyer area organised.
Modern Altar Cabinet
The altar cabinet was designed with a clean display niche, lighting, and storage below, allowing it to function respectfully as both a prayer area and a practical storage unit.
Sleek TV Cabinet
The TV cabinet uses a low, clean design to keep the living area spacious and visually uncluttered.
Custom Bedroom Wardrobes
Different wardrobe designs were created for the rooms, including swing-door wardrobes and sliding-door wardrobes, depending on available space and usage needs.
Pull-Out Storage Accessories
Pull-out storage trays were included to improve accessibility and make deep storage areas easier to use.
Challenges
1. Balancing Storage with a Clean Interior Look
The client required many built-in cabinets, but too much carpentry could make the condominium feel heavy or crowded.
2. Separating Dry and Wet Kitchen Functions
The dry kitchen needed to look presentable as part of the living space, while the wet kitchen needed to support practical cooking.
3. Maximising Entrance Storage
The entrance area had limited space, but it still needed a useful shoe cabinet without blocking movement.
4. Designing a Respectful Yet Modern Altar Cabinet
The altar cabinet needed to look proper and functional, while still matching the modern interior theme.
5. Customising Wardrobes for Different Room Sizes
Each bedroom had different space limitations, so the wardrobe layout and door type needed to be planned carefully.
Solutions
1. Clean Colour Blocking
We used white, dark grey, and selected wood-texture finishes to create contrast without making the home feel visually messy.
2. Built-In Cabinetry with Vertical Storage
Tall cabinets were used where suitable to maximise storage capacity while reducing the need for loose furniture.
3. Functional Kitchen Zoning
The dry kitchen was designed as a feature and serving area, while the wet kitchen was planned for heavier daily cooking.
4. Integrated Altar Cabinet Design
The altar cabinet was designed with a display area, lighting, and lower storage, making it practical while maintaining a clean and respectful appearance.
5. Room-Specific Wardrobe Planning
Wardrobes were customised according to each room’s available space, including swing-door and sliding-door options for better usability.
