描述

Project Overview

Kitchen Story Sdn. Bhd. completed a functional room carpentry project for Forrestville Condominium in Bayan Lepas, Penang. The project was designed to help the client transform a compact bedroom into a more practical and organized living space with multiple functions in one room.

The scope included a built-in wardrobe, study desk and tatami platform with storage, creating a room that can be used for sleeping, studying, working, storage and daily relaxation. The design uses a soft light wood-tone finish, neutral colour palette and clean cabinet lines to make the room feel brighter, warmer and more spacious.

This project is a good example of how custom carpentry can improve a condominium bedroom by maximizing vertical space, reducing loose furniture and creating a more efficient room layout.

Scope of Work

For this Forrestville Condominium Bayan Lepas Penang project, Kitchen Story provided:

Built-In Wardrobe

A custom wardrobe was designed to provide practical clothing storage, upper compartments and a cleaner built-in appearance that fits the room layout.

Study Desk

A built-in study desk was included beside the bed area, creating a proper space for reading, laptop use, work, study and daily personal tasks.

Tatami Platform with Storage

The tatami platform was designed to create a raised sleeping area with additional storage drawers underneath, helping the client make better use of the room’s floor area.

Bedhead & Side Storage Design

A simple bedhead feature and side counter were included to create a comfortable sleeping area while also supporting bedside use, books and small decorations.

Drawer Storage

Storage drawers were built into the platform and desk area to help keep personal items, bedding, books and daily essentials organized.

Light Wood & White Colour Concept

The carpentry used a light wood-tone finish combined with white cabinet panels to create a clean, soft and modern look.

Fabrication & Installation

Kitchen Story handled cabinet fabrication, delivery and site installation with attention to alignment, storage function, drawer movement and overall finishing.

Design Concept

The design concept focuses on a space-saving modern bedroom with warm, practical and multi-functional carpentry.

The tatami platform helps create extra storage without taking up additional floor space. The study desk is connected to the bed area, allowing the room to function as both a bedroom and a study/work area. The built-in wardrobe uses vertical height to improve storage capacity while keeping the room visually neat.

Challenges & Solutions

1. Maximizing Function in a Compact Room

Challenge:
Condominium bedrooms usually have limited floor space. The client needed a room that could support sleeping, storage and study functions without feeling too crowded.

Solution:
Kitchen Story designed a combined carpentry layout with a built-in wardrobe, study desk and tatami platform. This allowed multiple functions to be integrated into one room while reducing the need for separate loose furniture.

2. Creating Extra Storage Without Reducing Walking Space

Challenge:
Adding more cabinets or loose storage units can make a small bedroom feel narrow and difficult to move around.

Solution:
Storage was integrated into the tatami platform and wardrobe. The platform drawers provide hidden storage under the sleeping area, while the wardrobe uses vertical space efficiently.

3. Combining Study Area and Bedroom Comfort

Challenge:
The room needed a proper study desk, but the desk placement had to work together with the bed and wardrobe layout.

Solution:
The study desk was built beside the bed area, creating a practical work surface while still maintaining a comfortable bedroom arrangement. The desk also functions as a side counter for books and daily items.

4. Keeping the Room Bright and Spacious

Challenge:
Too much carpentry in a small room can make the space look heavy.

Solution:
A light wood-tone finish and white cabinet panels were used to keep the room visually bright. Clean cabinet lines and simple detailing helped reduce visual clutter.

5. Practical Daily Use and Easy Organization

Challenge:
The room needed to support real daily use, including clothes storage, study items, bedding, books and personal belongings.

Solution:
The wardrobe, drawers, platform storage and desk were planned as different storage zones. This helps the user keep items organized and makes the room easier to maintain.

Final Result

The completed Forrestville Condominium Bayan Lepas Penang room carpentry project successfully transformed the bedroom into a functional and space-efficient room. The built-in wardrobe, study desk and tatami platform with storage allow the room to serve multiple purposes while maintaining a clean and comfortable appearance.
