Custom Interior Design, Kitchen Cabinet, Wardrobe & Children’s Themed Bedroom Project
Kitchen Story Sdn. Bhd. completed this full custom cabinetry and interior design project at Pine Residence, Paya Terubong, Georgetown, Penang. The project was designed with a customised concept for each area of the home, including the living room, kitchen, bedrooms, wardrobes, workstation, and a specially designed children’s bedroom.
The project scope included interior design service, custom TV cabinet, modern kitchen cabinet, full carpentry works, wardrobes for all rooms, working station cabinet, bedroom cabinet design, and a custom children’s themed bedroom. Each area was planned based on the homeowner’s lifestyle, storage needs, and design preferences.
One of the main highlights of this project was the custom-made Hello Kitty-inspired bedroom design for the client’s daughter. Kitchen Story designed and fabricated the wardrobe, bed frame, bedhead, wall feature, drawer storage, and lighting details using a soft pink and white colour palette. The bedhead was shaped and crafted with a customised character-inspired form, creating a playful and memorable bedroom concept. The client loved the final outcome and gave positive compliments on the design and workmanship.
For the kitchen, we designed a modern kitchen cabinet with glass and mirror door panels, paired with a sintered stone countertop. This created a reflective and premium appearance while helping the kitchen feel brighter and more spacious. Functional kitchen accessories, drawer systems, pull-out storage, and organised compartments were also included to improve daily usability.
The living area was completed with a custom TV cabinet designed for storage, display, and entertainment use. The cabinet design combines glossy finishes, dark framing, and practical storage compartments to create a clean and organised living space.

Design Concept
The design concept for this Pine Residence project was based on customised living zones. Instead of applying one standard look throughout the entire home, each area was designed according to its function and user.
The kitchen and living area used a more modern and premium direction with glass, mirror, glossy surfaces, dark trim, and sintered stone. This helped create a cleaner and more refined appearance.
The bedrooms were designed with more personalised functions. The children’s bedroom used a soft pink and white colour theme, curved forms, customised feature shapes, and warm LED lighting to create a cheerful and comfortable space for the client’s daughter.
This project shows how custom carpentry can be used not only for storage, but also to create a strong personal design identity for each room.
Key Feature: Custom Children’s Themed Bedroom
The most memorable part of this project was the Hello Kitty-inspired children’s bedroom. The client wanted a bedroom that felt personal, playful, and unique for their daughter.
Kitchen Story designed and built a complete themed bedroom, including:
- Custom bed frame
- Character-inspired bedhead shape
- Pink and white wardrobe design
- Custom drawer storage
- Window bench and storage cabinet
- Soft LED lighting
- Wall feature design
- Personalised name detail
The design was not a standard ready-made furniture setup. It required custom shape cutting, careful proportion control, and detailed finishing to achieve the final look.
Key Feature: Modern Kitchen Cabinet with Glass and Mirror Door Panels
The kitchen cabinet was designed with a modern reflective look using glass and mirror door panels. This helped make the kitchen feel brighter and visually larger.
The kitchen was paired with a sintered stone countertop, giving the space a clean, durable, and premium finish. Internal kitchen accessories and pull-out systems were included to improve storage efficiency and daily convenience.
Key Feature: Full Carpentry Works for the Whole Home
This project involved extensive carpentry works throughout the unit. Kitchen Story provided custom cabinetry for different areas, including the kitchen, TV area, wardrobes, work station, and bedrooms.
This allowed the home to have better storage planning, more consistent finishing, and furniture sizes that fit the actual site condition.
Challenges
1. Creating a Different Concept for Each Area
The client wanted different design concepts for different areas of the home. The challenge was to make each space personalised while still keeping the overall home visually coordinated.
2. Fabricating a Custom Character-Inspired Bedroom
The children’s bedroom required special shapes, curved profiles, custom bedhead design, and themed colour matching. This required more detailed fabrication compared with standard straight-line cabinetry.
3. Balancing Design and Practical Storage
The home needed attractive design features, but the cabinets also had to provide practical storage for daily use. This was especially important for bedrooms, wardrobes, and working areas.
4. Using Reflective Finishes Without Making the Space Look Too Heavy
Glass and mirror door panels can look premium, but if used without proper planning, they may make the kitchen feel too reflective or visually busy.
5. Coordinating Full Carpentry Works Across Multiple Rooms
Because this project involved many built-in items, proper measurement, production planning, and installation coordination were important to avoid alignment issues and delays.
Solutions
1. Area-by-Area Design Planning
We planned each area based on its own function. The living and kitchen areas were given a modern and premium look, while the children’s bedroom was designed with a playful and personalised concept.
2. Custom Shape Fabrication
For the themed bedroom, we used custom carpentry fabrication to create the bedhead shape, wardrobe design, and decorative elements. This allowed the final design to match the client’s requested concept more closely.
3. Practical Built-In Storage
Wardrobes, drawers, study areas, and cabinets were planned to maximise usable storage while keeping the room layout clean and comfortable.
4. Controlled Use of Glass and Mirror Panels
The kitchen’s reflective finishes were balanced with darker frames, countertop surfaces, and proper lighting to create a modern look without overwhelming the space.
5. In-House Carpentry Coordination
The project required accurate site measurement, design confirmation, fabrication planning, and installation coordination. This helped ensure the full carpentry works were delivered with better consistency.

Why This Project Works Well
This project works well because each area was designed with a clear purpose. The kitchen and living area deliver a modern and premium appearance, while the bedrooms focus on comfort, storage, and personalisation.
The children’s themed bedroom became the main highlight because it was fully customised instead of relying on loose furniture or simple wall decoration. The custom bedhead, wardrobe, storage, and lighting helped create a bedroom that feels unique, functional, and memorable.
The client was highly satisfied with the final result and gave positive feedback on both the design outcome and workmanship.
