Kitchen Story Sdn. Bhd. completed this custom carpentry, painting and wiring project at The Rise Collection 3, Georgetown, Penang. The client engaged us to improve the home’s storage function, visual consistency and daily usability through a modern natural wood concept.

The project included a custom kitchen cabinet, breakfast table, fridge cabinet, foyer storage display cabinet with curved round detailing, painting works and wiring works. Design Concept

The design concept focuses on a modern natural wood interior that feels clean, warm and practical. Instead of using heavy dark finishes, we proposed a lighter wood tone to keep the home visually spacious while still adding natural warmth.

The kitchen cabinet was designed with an efficient working layout, combining wall cabinets, base cabinets, open shelving and a breakfast table. The breakfast table also works as a light dining area, preparation counter and visual divider between the kitchen and living space.

The fridge cabinet was integrated into the kitchen layout to create a more complete and organised built-in appearance. Additional storage was planned around the fridge area to reduce unused wall space.

At the foyer area, we designed a storage and display cabinet with a curved round-shape door. This softens the overall look of the entrance while providing functional storage and display space. The curved design also makes the cabinet feel more premium and less boxy.

Design Challenges

The first challenge was balancing storage and openness. The client needed practical storage, but the home should still feel spacious and bright.

The second challenge was the kitchen and dining transition. The breakfast table needed to function well without blocking movement between the kitchen, dining and living area.

The third challenge was the foyer cabinet design. A standard square cabinet would look too rigid at the entrance, so the design required softer detailing.

The fourth challenge was material consistency. Kitchen cabinet, fridge cabinet and foyer cabinet needed to look connected, even though each area had a different function.

Our Solution

We used a consistent natural wood material palette across the kitchen and foyer carpentry to create visual harmony. Light neutral panels were added to prevent the design from feeling too heavy.

The kitchen was planned with upper and lower cabinets, open shelving and appliance-friendly spacing. The breakfast table was positioned to provide additional function while still keeping the walkway practical.

For the foyer area, the curved round-shape display cabinet helps soften the entrance and adds a more customised design feature. The curved detailing gives the home a more refined look compared to a standard straight cabinet.

ABS edging was used for the cabinet carcass and doors to improve edge durability and provide a cleaner finish. DTC soft-closing hinges and BLUM drawer systems were selected for smoother daily operation and long-term usability.
