Kitchen Story Sdn. Bhd. completed this classic country concept kitchen cabinet project at Surin Condominium, Tanjung Bungah, Penang. The client wanted a kitchen design that feels warmer, more timeless and more refined than a standard modern cabinet. To achieve this, we designed a kitchen cabinet using Solid Nyatoh spray-painted doors and panels, paired with a black quartz stone countertop for contrast and durability.

The final design combines country-style detailing, practical storage and proper ventilation planning, creating a kitchen that is both elegant and functional for daily use.

Design Concept

The design concept is classic country with practical modern kitchen function. The spray-painted Solid Nyatoh doors give the cabinet a softer and more premium character compared with standard flat-panel doors. The louvered door detail adds a traditional country-style feature while also helping ventilation for selected cabinet areas.

The black quartz stone countertop creates a strong contrast against the light-coloured cabinet doors, making the kitchen look cleaner, more balanced and more elegant. Design Challenges

The first challenge was creating a classic country look without making the condominium kitchen feel old-fashioned or visually heavy. Country-style cabinets can look too busy if the detailing, colour and countertop are not balanced properly.

The second challenge was ventilation. Certain cabinet areas, especially near appliances and utility zones, require better airflow to reduce trapped heat and moisture.

The third challenge was fitting multiple appliances into a limited condominium kitchen layout, including the washing machine, fridge, oven and microwave, while still maintaining enough countertop working space.

Our Solution

We used Solid Nyatoh spray-painted doors to achieve the classic country look while keeping the overall colour soft and clean. Selected louvered doors were included to improve ventilation and also strengthen the country-style design language.

For the countertop, we selected black quartz stone to provide durability, easy maintenance and a strong visual contrast. The cabinet layout was planned around the existing kitchen workflow, with clear zones for washing, cooking, preparation, storage and appliances.

Open shelving was added to reduce the visual heaviness of the wall area, while base cabinet storage was arranged to support practical daily use.
