Minimalist Kitchen Cabinet & Hidden-Door Wardrobe Design
This Mansion One project at Gurney Drive, George Town, Penang was designed and built for an expatriate client from Australia who engaged Kitchen Story for a new kitchen cabinet and a custom wardrobe integrated with a hidden door to the master bedroom shower room.
The client preferred a clean minimalist design with practical storage, easy maintenance and premium hardware performance. Kitchen Story proposed a bright white kitchen concept using crystal white glass doors, quartz stone countertop and a brown mirror kitchen back panel to create a clean, modern and reflective finish. The wardrobe was also designed with a concealed hidden door system, allowing the shower room entrance to blend into the built-in storage design.
One correction: this project should be listed as Mansion One, Gurney Drive, George Town, Penang, not “Maritime Suites in Mansion One.” Maritime Suites and Mansion One are different developments, so using both names together may confuse Google and website visitors.
Project Scope
Kitchen Story was engaged to design and build:
- Custom kitchen cabinet
- Tall unit cabinet for built-in oven and storage
- Kitchen wall cabinet and base cabinet
- Quartz stone countertop
- Brown mirror kitchen back panel
- Internal cabinet accessories and storage fittings
- Wardrobe in master bedroom
- Hidden door integrated with wardrobe design
- Site measurement, fabrication and installation coordination
Design Concept
The main design direction was minimalist, bright and functional. The white cabinet finish helps the kitchen look clean and spacious, while the brown mirror back panel adds depth and a warmer contrast against the white glass doors.
For the master bedroom wardrobe, the design focused on a seamless built-in look. Instead of exposing the shower room entrance as a normal door, Kitchen Story integrated the door into the wardrobe structure. This creates a cleaner wall composition and improves the overall bedroom appearance.

Fittings & Hardware Used
The client specifically requested BLUM hardware for both the kitchen cabinet and wardrobe. This was a strong choice because BLUM fittings are reliable, smooth and suitable for long-term daily use.

- BLUM drawer system
- Cabinet lift-up support fitting for upper cabinet where applicable
- Pull-out basket system for kitchen storage
- Pull-out tray / internal organizer for cooking items

Challenges
The first challenge was to maintain a minimalist design while still providing enough storage and functionality. Minimalist cabinets can easily look plain if the material combination is not properly balanced.
The second challenge was the hidden door design. A wardrobe-integrated hidden door must be planned carefully so that it looks seamless from the outside but still functions properly as an access door to the shower room.
The third challenge was meeting the expectations of an expatriate client who required a cleaner finish, better hardware quality and more precise installation detailing.
Solutions
Kitchen Story used a simple but premium material combination: white glass doors, quartz stone countertop and brown mirror back panel. This kept the kitchen bright while adding visual contrast and a more refined appearance.
For functionality, BLUM hardware and pull-out accessories were included to improve daily usage. These fittings help reduce door impact, improve drawer movement and make internal storage more accessible.
For the master bedroom wardrobe, the hidden door was aligned with the cabinet layout so the entrance to the shower room could blend into the wardrobe design. This solution created a cleaner bedroom wall and improved the overall minimalist concept.
Final Outcome
The completed Mansion One project delivers a clean, practical and premium-looking built-in interior. The kitchen cabinet achieves a bright minimalist look with durable quartz stone and crystal white glass doors, while the wardrobe hidden door provides a more refined solution for the master bedroom layout.
This project reflects Kitchen Story’s experience in handling custom kitchen cabinets, wardrobe systems and hidden-door carpentry works for condominium units in Gurney Drive, George Town and Penang.
