PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Nippon Paint PU Recoatable Clear Finish is a premium two-component, high-build, aliphatic acrylic polyurethane coating. Specifically engineered to provide a highly durable, crystal-clear topcoat, it is ideal for surfaces requiring superior gloss retention and UV protection. Its non-yellowing formula makes it perfect for both interior and exterior applications, particularly on wood and specialized masonry. This coating offers exceptional resistance to abrasion, impact, and chemical splashes (including dilute acids, alkalis, and solvents), ensuring long-term aesthetic appeal and structural protection. Its "recoatable" property allows for easy maintenance even after long-term exposure.

• Mixing Ratio: 4 parts Base to 1 part Hardener (by volume)

• Pot Life: 4 – 5 hours after mixing (at 25°C – 30°C)

• Thinning: Nippon PU Recoatable Thinner (Max 5% - 15% depending on application method)

• Touch Dry: 2 hours

• Hard Dry: 8 – 16 hours

• Full Cure: 7 days

• Recoating Interval: Minimum 8 hours

• Theoretical Coverage: 12.0 m² per litre per coat (at 50 microns DFT)

• Shelf Life: Up to 24 months (Base) / 12 months (Hardener) in tightly sealed containers

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

• Mixing: Stir the Base (Part A) thoroughly. Gradually add the Hardener (Part B) and mix with a mechanical stirrer until a completely homogeneous mixture is obtained. Allow an induction time of 10 minutes before use.

• Application Method: Brush, Roller, Compressed Air Spray, or Airless Spray.

• Dilution: * Brush/Roller: Max 10% thinning for better flow.

  • Airless Spray: Max 5% thinning.

  • Compressed Air Spray: 10% – 15% thinning for optimal atomization.

• Cleaning: Clean all tools and equipment with Nippon PU Recoatable Thinner immediately after use.

• Note: Do not apply if relative humidity exceeds 85% or if rain is expected within 24 hours.

RECOMMENDED COATING SYSTEM

For Wood Surfaces:

• Primer (Optional): 1 coat of Nippon Sanding Sealer (to fill grains).

• Topcoat (2-3 Coats): PU Recoatable Clear Finish.

For Metal/Steel (Protective Clear Layer):

• Primer/Intermediate: Suitable Epoxy Primer (e.g., EA9 Series).

• Topcoat (2 Coats): PU Recoatable Clear Finish.

For Masonry/Tiles:

• Sealer (1 Coat): Tilelac EMA Base or 5100 Wall Sealer.

• Topcoat (2 Coats): PU Recoatable Clear Finish.

SURFACE PREPARATION

• General Cleaning: Ensure the surface is completely dry and free from all contaminants, including oil, grease, wax, and dust.

• Wood Surfaces: Sand the surface in the direction of the grain using Grade #80 or #100 sandpaper to smoothen. Wipe off all dust before application.

• Steel Surfaces: For maximum performance, surfaces should be abrasive blasted to Sa 2½. If not possible, mechanical cleaning to St 3 is required. Ensure the primer layer is clean and sound.

• Previously Painted Surfaces: Remove all loose or peeling paint. If the existing coating is old epoxy or PU, the surface must be lightly abraded (sanded) to ensure proper inter-coat adhesion.

• Moisture Content: Ensure wood moisture content is below 12% and masonry below 6%.
