HEAVY DUTY WATERPROOFING AND VOLTAGE ISOLATION MEMBRANE
Description
M-Seal VM1000 is a heavy duty self-adhesive SBS Modified Waterproofing and Voltage Isolation Membrane with a high temperature, high tear and high puncture resistant fabric top layer for use on slab and wall applications. Made from a SBS Modified rubber composition, the M-Seal® VM1000 membrane is an easy, clean and environmentally friendly solution for preventing the transfer of water and static electrical currents through concrete slabs and walls, in both wet and dry areas of application.
The self-adhesive layer of M-Seal® VM1000 bonds strongly to the existing substrate, while the concrete topping screed (secondary top layer) bonds tenaciously to the special fabric top layer of the membrane. This dual bonding process prevents any separation between the substrate and the concrete topping screed which also helps maintain the quality and sustainability of the finished floor coverings.
M-Seal® VM1000 has high crack-bridging capabilities and due to the self-adhesive bonding of the membrane to the structural slab, and the bonding of the topping layer slab to the special fabric top layer, it becomes a fully bonded membrane system to the substrate, and to the proceeding concrete layer, which also enables it to isolate, insulate and prevent the transfer of electrical currents and water through the concrete or via cracks in the concrete.
Uses
-
Railway station platform slabs and walls
-
Viaducts and Bridges
-
Power Stations and Utilities
-
Electrical Riser Rooms
-
Base slabs, walls and roofs
-
Retaining Walls
Advantages
-
Fast and easy to install compared to conventional membrane systems
-
A 2.7mm thick heavy duty self-adhesive membrane with excellent adhesion to the concrete substrate, for both floor and wall applications. No torch-on or hot-iron requirements needed for installation, so no harsh or hazardous fumes are created
-
Produced from a special SBS Modified Rubber composition with both the adhesive bottom layer and the special fabric top layer bonded during the manufacturing process
-
A heavy duty temperature, tear and puncture resistant fabric top layer for high performance bonding to concrete topping slabs, to cement screed layers and to cement wall render applications. Also prevents the migration of water between membrane and finishes
-
Provides excellent electrical insulation in both wet and dry conditions. Can withstand >5.0 x 10^14 ohm-cm
-
Bonds to most types of surfaces (concrete, steel, ceramic, PVC pipe) with the use of our recommended adhesive primer
-
Resistant to chlorides, sulfates, alkalis and acids
-
High crack bridging capabilities of up to 2mm
-
Resists 70m Hydrostatic Head Pressure
Application
M-Seal® VM1000 Membrane should be installed by an approved specialist installation contractor using trained personnel and using the correct installation tools and equipment. For each specific project installation, the approved installation contractor is to provide a full detailed installation method statement that has been approved by the project’s Professional Design Engineer and Project Manager, who have satisfied themselves that the membrane complies and conforms to their project’s installation and specification requirements. The full detailed installation method statement must be referred to and approved prior to the installation work commencing. The following information is for an indicative guide only and relates to use as a stand-alone membrane. For specific membrane application use and for electrical isolation membrane use, refer to CORKJOINT for further information and for full installation instructions and method statements.
-
Surface Preparation
The concrete surface receiving the membrane should be well compacted, float finished and free from cavities and projections. All surfaces should be clean, dry, free from moisture, frost, surface laitance and contamination.
-
Priming Horizontal Surfaces
Apply an application of CJ-200 water-based adhesive primer at the rate of 8-9m2 per litre to the concrete surface and allow to become tacky to touch (15mins to 25mins depending upon the ambient temperature) before applying the membrane.
-
Vertical Surfaces
As above. But, if a cement wall render is being applied onto the external fabric of the membrane, then use an application of CJ-300 solvent-based adhesive primer to the concrete surface and allow to become tacky to touch (15mins to 25mins depending upon the ambient temperature) before applying the membrane.
-
Application of Membrane
Remove the protection release film from the rubber side of the membrane and apply the membrane onto the primed surface and press firmly into place using a medium to hard surface roller to ensure full bonding of the membrane is achieved and to make sure all air pockets are removed. For joining of the membrane, allow an overlap of 100mm and roll the joins firmly and continuously to remove all air pockets.
-
Exposure and Protection
All locations of the installed membrane should be immediately protected by the installation of the topping slab or by appropriate installation protection boards/covers for slab areas and walls, cordoned off so at no time should the membrane be directly walked on, be damaged, punctured, pierced, dislodged, subject to traffic of any type, otherwise its function and performance maybe compromised or hindered. For areas of membrane that have been damaged prior to the topping slab or the cement wall render application, then refer to CORKJOINT for further information.
