Full House Renovation, Modern Classic Interior Design & Custom Carpentry Project
Kitchen Story Sdn. Bhd. completed this full house renovation and interior design project at Eco Botanic, Iskandar Puteri, Johor. Although Kitchen Story is based in Penang, the client trusted our team to handle the project due to our design capability, carpentry experience, and ability to coordinate a full renovation scope from planning to completion.
This project was designed with a modern classic interior concept, combining elegant wall moulding, clean white finishes, dark cabinet tones, warm wood features, marble-look surfaces, and selected luxury details. The result is a refined family home that balances comfort, practicality, storage, and visual character.
The job scope included interior design, custom TV cabinet, modern classic kitchen cabinet, full carpentry works, wardrobes for all rooms, dining room building extension, Suzuka artistic wall painting, plaster ceiling works, air conditioning works, plumbing works, landscaping works, aluminium shoe cabinet with spray painted glass door, aluminium performance door, painting works, and general renovation coordination.
One of the key highlights is the modern classic kitchen cabinet, designed with membrane press door and panel finishing and paired with a sintered stone countertop. The white cabinet profile, classic handles, soft lighting, and functional pantry storage systems create a clean and elegant kitchen suitable for daily family use.
Another strong feature is the under-stair display and storage cabinet, designed with glass doors, LED lighting, wine storage, display shelving, and integrated storage. Instead of leaving the staircase area unused, it was converted into a practical and visually attractive feature.
The outdoor area was also improved with landscaping works, artificial grass, outdoor tiling, garden planting, and covered patio areas, creating a more usable and welcoming exterior space for the family.

Design Concept
The design concept for this Eco Botanic project is modern classic with warm lifestyle elements.
The interior uses a strong combination of white wall moulding, black cabinetry, warm wood textures, marble-look flooring, brass lighting details, and soft ambient lighting. This creates a home that feels elegant but still practical for everyday family living.
The living room features a clean classic TV wall with white panel detailing and low-profile cabinet storage. The kitchen and island area use darker cabinet tones to create contrast, while the sintered stone countertop adds a premium finish.
The staircase area was treated as a major design feature. Wood wall panelling, under-stair display storage, LED lighting, and glass doors helped transform the staircase from a simple circulation area into a functional focal point.
For the exterior, the landscaping and patio works improved the overall first impression of the home, making the garden and outdoor area more welcoming and usable.
Key Feature: Modern Classic Kitchen Cabinet
The kitchen cabinet was designed with membrane press doors and panels, giving the kitchen a refined modern classic appearance. The raised door profile, classic handles, and white cabinet finishing create a clean and timeless look.
The kitchen was also planned with practical storage accessories, including tall pull-out pantry units, organiser storage, upper cabinets, drawer storage, appliance zones, and sufficient countertop space.
The sintered stone countertop provides a premium surface appearance and supports daily kitchen use.
Key Feature: Under-Stair Display Cabinet & Wine Storage
The under-stair area was converted into a custom feature cabinet with display shelving, LED lighting, glass doors, bottle display, wine storage, and concealed storage.
This solution is effective because it uses a normally underutilised space and turns it into a feature area. It also creates a stronger visual connection between the staircase, living area, and dining area.
Key Feature: Dining Room Extension
The dining area was extended to create a more comfortable and usable dining space. This allowed the family to enjoy better seating capacity, improved natural light, and a stronger connection between the indoor dining area and outdoor garden.
The extension required careful coordination between structure, flooring, doors, ceiling, lighting, air conditioning, and finishing works.
Key Feature: Outdoor Landscaping & Patio Improvement
The exterior was upgraded with landscaping works, lawn treatment, planting, outdoor flooring, covered patio areas, and garden details. This improved both the appearance and usability of the outdoor space.
The garden area now feels more complete and suitable for family use, outdoor seating, and daily enjoyment.
Key Feature: Aluminium Shoe Cabinet with Spray Painted Glass Door
For the car porch and entrance area, we designed an aluminium shoe cabinet with spray painted glass door. This material choice is practical for semi-outdoor use because aluminium performs better in moisture-prone areas compared with standard wood-based cabinetry.
The spray painted glass door gives the cabinet a cleaner and more premium appearance while keeping the entrance area organised.
Challenges
1. Outstation Project Coordination Between Penang and Johor
Kitchen Story is based in Penang, while the project site is located in Iskandar Puteri, Johor. The challenge was to maintain clear communication, accurate site coordination, material planning, and renovation control despite the distance.
2. Managing a Full House Renovation Scope
This project involved many trades, including carpentry, plaster ceiling, painting, plumbing, air conditioning, aluminium works, landscaping, and building extension works. Without proper coordination, delays and quality inconsistency could occur.
3. Maintaining Modern Classic Consistency
Modern classic design requires proportion control, clean detailing, and consistent finishing. If overdone, the space can look heavy or outdated. If underdone, it may look too plain.
4. Creating Practical Storage Without Making the Home Feel Crowded
The client needed kitchen storage, wardrobes, shoe storage, under-stair storage, display storage, and pantry storage. The challenge was to maximise storage while keeping the house visually clean and elegant.
5. Integrating Outdoor and Indoor Design
The project included both interior renovation and exterior landscaping. The challenge was to make the outdoor area feel connected to the interior concept without looking disconnected or temporary.
Solutions
1. Structured Design and Project Coordination
We handled the project with proper design planning, site measurement, work sequencing, material confirmation, fabrication planning, and installation coordination. This helped reduce miscommunication despite the project being located outside Penang.
2. Full Scope Planning Before Execution
Because the project involved multiple renovation trades, the work scope was planned in stages. Carpentry, ceiling, painting, plumbing, air conditioning, aluminium, and landscaping works were coordinated to avoid unnecessary rework.
3. Balanced Modern Classic Detailing
We used wall moulding, membrane press cabinet doors, classic handles, neutral colours, and selected dark accents to create a modern classic look without making the home feel too heavy.
4. Custom Storage Solutions
Custom cabinetry was designed for different areas of the home, including the kitchen, wardrobes, under-stair display, shoe cabinet, and storage areas. This allowed the house to remain organised while matching the design concept.
5. Practical Material Selection
We used membrane press cabinet doors, sintered stone countertop, aluminium cabinet solutions, spray painted glass doors, and selected wall finishes to suit different areas and usage conditions.

Why This Project Works Well
This project works well because it was not only a cabinetry project. It was a full home transformation covering both interior and exterior areas.
The modern classic concept gives the home a refined and timeless appearance, while the custom carpentry improves storage and daily usability. The kitchen is elegant and functional, the under-stair cabinet becomes a strong feature, the dining extension improves lifestyle comfort, and the landscaping enhances the home’s overall first impression.
The client’s trust was especially important because the project was located in Johor while Kitchen Story is based in Penang. The successful completion shows the importance of clear planning, proper coordination, and consistent workmanship.
